Sarah's Kinda Helpful Web Site

  Home : About me
About me... or... who does she think she is!!!

So... I finally decided to do a teeny tiny page about me. Not that I've got anything to say on the topic - it's a bit dull really... but, I thought that I should prove I'm a person not a computer churning out this nonsense!!! For the cheesy details... <gulp>... read on! If you'd like to know what the site is about... then you need to be clicking here...

  The basics...

Nick, Maddy and me in 2003

My name is Sarah Horrigan and the first thing to tell you is that it's essential that you bear in mind that my birthday is on August the 28th. That's right. The 28th of August. A date for your diaries I'm sure you'll agree. Make a note. Print out this page and pop it next to your calendar. That's it. Oh - and I lurve birthday cards, Christmas cards aren't bad, but a genuine 100% birthday card is what I'm really after... :o)

What else... hmmm... I live in Milton Keynes with my husband Nick, our daughter Madeleine and our three puss cats, Ernest, Mokie and Parsley. With a small baby I don't have much time for anything else... other than I can cram in with a crow bar that is!

PS Don't forget the birthday... <grin>

  What have I done education-wise?

I'm currently doing a degree (or that's the idea) with the Open University. I started in 2000 with T171 (You, your computer and the net) and T293 (Communicating Technology) - and loved it! I completed T205 (Systems Thinking: Principles and Practice) in 2001 despite a very hectic year and enjoyed it enough to carry on studying! During 2003 I took it easy with a couple of short courses - S193 (Fossils and the History of Life) and A178 (Perspective on Leonardo da Vinci). I survived A214 (Understanding Music: Elements, Techniques and Styles) in 2004 which was a bit of change of direction, but picks up on the music I did when I was at Uni first time around... and also squeezed in T186 (E-Learning) and the October presentation of M150 (Data, Computing and Information). 2005 sees me having a bash at AA302... and some time in the near future I may finally get my OU degree!

If you want to do something that'll prove that you can do something - then do a course with the OU. You life will change dramatically - and it's an incredibly positive experience.

Before that... well... various Microsoftie bits 'n' bobs, a few computery things and a degree in Economics from the University of Portsmouth. And, before you ask... I did discover that I liked technology after I started my Economics degree!!! It's only because I'm stubborn that I stuck it out! In case you're wondering - I haven't always been good with 'puters... I only really started using them at Uni - so you've Portsmouth to blame for everything!!!

What do I do for a job?!

In the past I've worked training tutors to teach online for LearnDirect - which was an interesting experience on lots of levels! Before then, I worked mainly in IT Support/Training and in Project Management... but have "downsized" since then, am currently enjoying the luxury of working from home part-time!!

As to work now... well... apart from being a mum and an Open University student (which I love to bits!) I've also worked as a tutor on TU170 (Learning Online: Computing with Confidence) and a moderator on several student conferences, and have done various consultancy odds and ends. In the past I've tutor-moderated TT280 (Web Basics: Design, Development and Management), have been a script marker for T183 (Design and the Web) and have moderated bits and pieces for T171, T293 and TU170. All of which have been lots of fun!

If you need to contact me, just use the e-mail contact form I've put online, and provided I'm feeling organised, I'll get back to you as soon as I can!

Anything else I want to add....

Ernest the puss cat
Ernest - the puss cat

Ermmmm.... nope! Nothing much, which is unlike me, because I could waffle for England!

Oh... here's a picture of Ernest! Yeah, I know it's a bit sad including a photo of him... but I'm allowed sometimes! If anyone wants to know, he's 8 years old, I inherited him when I bought my first house... and he's a tad massive. See - knew you'd want to know a-a-a-a-a-all about that!

Ooooh - I remember what I forgot to mention... I forgot to say THANK YOU to all the people who've given me stuff for the web site, links, encouragement, suggestions - whatever... THANK YOU!!!
