About this site... or... why on earth is it here????

Just to put this site in context I thought I'd write a little bit of blurb on what I hope people can get from this site and why I put it together in the first place! Read on if you want... and if not, click on Home and start exploring the rest of Kindahelpful!!

Why??

I first started putting this site together in October 2000 having finished the Open University courses T171 (You, Your Computer and the Net) and T293 (Communicating Technology). I realised I'd got a whole load of useful information up my sleeve that I wished I'd known when I started the course. It's amazing how much you learn in the space of a year! Once I'd started putting down the course and Open University-related bits and pieces I found that there were other helpful links and resources that I used on a regular basis and was always digging out for other people... that got popped online too!

It's my aim that this site is not a commercial resource. I've tried to make sure that the things to which I've linked are free and I get / make no money for putting together this site... and that's not going to change!!

Now?

Since starting the site I've decided to study a wider variety of courses and have begun tutoring TU170 (Learning Online : Computing with Confidence)... which has given me another perspective entirely on the Open University system. I'm gradually starting to put on-line study tips for those embarking on web-based courses or for those wanting to put together a simple web site. I hope that people find the information on here useful even if they're not Open University students... though a lot of the resources here are targetted for that group. The site isn't intended as a "here's all my past assignments - enjoy!" experience, it's been created to save people all that annoying digging around that can hinder the richness of study you could otherwise be getting! It's a pooling of resources of an awful lot of talented people and a little bit of blurb from me!!

I should also say a massive "thank you" to Angie Gibson for letting me have space to host this site... it's hugely appreciated!!

Next?

Who knows?! I should finish my OU degree next year and maybe then I'll have the time I need to really think about where this site could go! I'd like to add a section for those tutoring Open University courses in time... but... well... y'know! No time an' all!! :o)

Right - enough waffle... enjoy the site and if you don't - then ple-e-e-e-ease let me know!!
