Anti-virus links... or who ya gonna call??

When it's all going pear-shaped, your computer's throwing a total hissy fit, strange messages keep appearing... you may well have a virus on your computer. They come in all shapes and forms but if you want to track down what it might be and more importantly how to cleanse your computer of it, there's even good advice on how to prevent those 'puter nightmares in the first place... take a trip to some of these sites!

Where to look? Why to look...
Kaspersky Labs Good general anti-virus reference as well as a handy online virus scanner. The OU use this company's anti-virus software... and hey... if it's good enough for them... well... it'll do for me!
Online Safety Guide Written by a fellow OU-er, Len Meakin, as part of his excellent Incubus web site, there's loads of really good sensible advice here whether it's about stuff that's safe to download, tips on online chatting or even the latest security updates for your PC... plus loads more! An absolute must visit!!
  Faculty of Technology
AntiVirus Support
Not the most up-to-date site in the world... but... it's the official OU site, so it's gotta be worth a look... hasn't it? There's some info about what a virus is, and some tips for users... but... for more current info from the OU log into FirstClass and check out the LTS Helpdesk!
Trend Micro HouseCall Free scan of your computer online... can't be a bad thing! Just follow the simple instructions and in about 10 minutes your computer will get a complete scan! The section on viruses etc is well worth a look... if you're not sure if you've got a problem or if you're just curious (like me!!!)
  Network Associates

The virus information available on this site is excellent! From symptoms to alerts, hoaxes to fixes... it's got loadsa info! Check out the virus library as first point of call if your anti-virus software picks up summat nasty and have a nose at the calendar to see if anything horrid is headed your way soon!

SageWorld Rhys Sage, a fellow OU-er, has put together a handy site if you're interested computer security... especially what your firewall (I use a free one from ZoneLabs) is blocking. He's developed an "anti-hacker" program, and there're some other useful bits on his site too!
  Cable Modem Troubleshooting Security

This site's got some good info (albeit quite techie!) info about Internet security... the gist is... get hold of a firewall for your computer! I've used the free one from ZoneAlarm in the past, and currently have Sygate's Personal Firewall... also free for personal use.
