Preferences... or those little tweaks that mean so much...

One of the things that used to really be annoying about using your web browser to access FirstClass was that you couldn't tweak any of your preferences, you had to accept everything as given to you... well... now you can change stuff... your resumé, your password and more!

  Changing the basics...

To get into Preferences, you need to click on the little icon at the top which looks like a little box with a couple of ticks by it...

Then...

Adding a signature:
Adding a signature is straightforward! Just scroll down to the signature box, type in the text you want to appear on every e-mail message, and set 'Automatically add signature to new messages' to 'Yes'

Accepting/refusing chats:
Easy! Just select 'Yes' or 'No' from the drop down, you can even set it to allow sounds during chat too...

Speeding up conferences:
The option for only viewing unread messages is perfect for you if you're accessing FirstClass using your web browser. Set this to 'Yes' and only the messages you haven't already seen will appear... saves masses of pointless scrolling and time waiting for a screen to load up:

NB: Once you've made the changes you want, click on 'Save'... then... close down your browser window and log back in again. Simply saving the changes doesn't seem to work!

  Writing your resumé...
Top

While you're in the Preferences section, you can change your resumé so that others can find out a little more about you. Just click on the Resumé icon:

Type in what you want to say about yourself, then click on 'Save'. That's it! To see your own resumé or view someone else's, either look that person up in the directory, or click on the 'Who's Online' button. Then, click on the little Resumé icon next to their name and read away...

As with the FirstClass Client software, you can change your password. To do this, from the Preferences screen, just click on the little icon that looks like a lock:

Then, type in your old password, and the new one (twice in order to confirm it). Then, click on Save. Your password will show up disguised by asterisks or little round blobs (on Windows XP)...

Top Other stuff you can do...

  • You can set messages to automatically forward to another e-mail account
  • You can set an auto-reply message
  • You can change the look of the web pages for viewing FirstClass, number of pages displayed, colour etc

Once you've made the changes... just click on the 'Save' button and you're away!!
