Searching... or... digging out the useful stuff

Though searching for information is easier in the FirstClass client, it is possible in the browser version. It can be a bit of a nuisance, and depending on which server you're using, you'll get a different range of search functions! Jeez!! I've included some extra bits of info about searching which you might like to be aware of...

Towards the top of your browser windows should be a small magnifying glass icon... this is the search facility. Click on it:

The following screen appears:

Fill in the criteria you want to search for, by typing into the boxes/selecting the categories and click on the "search" button which is tucked away in the top right hand corner.

A list of postings will appear that possibly contain what you're after. To view the postings, just click on the one which looks like what you're after. Bear in mind that this can be an extremely slow process... and you may be a while before you get the knack of putting in the sort of criteria that'll get results!

Remember: Fill in the criteria (by putting ticks into the boxes!!!) otherwise there will be nothing to search for! As this search function is looking for things throughout the site (unless you're on one of the servers below), remember that you are going to have to be fairly specific with what you're looking for - otherwise you might as well trawl your way through everything manually!

  Stuff to be aware of...

1.  If you know the posting you're looking for was done in the last few days, make sure you enter a number into the "Include items created or modified in the last... days" category. This will help limit the search.

2.  If you're stuck on something with FirstClass it's a good idea to do a search of the LTS conferences - particularly the one dealing with accessing via a browser - before you start to panic!!

3. When you're presented with the list of search results, clicking on either the sender's name, file size, subject or last modified date will take you straight to the posting in question... if you click on 'In folder', then you'll just go to the folder it lives in instead!
