So... you spend a year happily pootling about doing Techie courses... then you realise that your new Arts course needs you on to live on a different server. Well - here's a handy dandy guide to getting yourself up and running in your new home...
1. Got an account on the server you're trying to access
2. That the account is active on that server (check on your personal menu)
3. That you have not got FirstClass connecting automatically. If you have got it connecting automatically, click here to find out how to change the setting.
Changing server... an example, with server 2 being the destination
1. Start up FirstClass... but don't log in... yet!
2. There are two boxes at the top of the Login screen, one says "File" and the one below says "Service"
3. Type 'oufcnt2.fc" into the "File" box
4. The "Service" box should now say "oufcnt2" - click on "Setup". The following box appears...
In the box labelled "Server"... type in "oufcnt2.open.ac.uk" and click on Save. Click here for a list of settings for all servers...
5. Put in your username and password for that server (this might well be the same as your existing one)
6. Click on save (if you want to - if you're security conscious - don't!)
7. Click on "Login" - your new desktop appears!
To check which server you're on... just look at the first line above the icons on your desktop... in the example below, you can see that I was logged onto server 2:
