Definition: Type of continuously rising (or falling) pitch is called a glissando

Ground bass

Definition: The ground bass is sometimes referred to as a type of ostinato. This is because pieces with the title 'ground bass' (or 'ground') are formed over the constant repetition of a phrase in the bass part.

Further info: recurring element always in bass part. Repeated phrases tend to be longer and more melodically interesting than many ostinati, being typically 4 or 8 bars long
