  Surviving T171/TU170 with FrontPage 2000...

Keep FrontPage away from your file structure and from naming your pages and images

Set your browser compatibilities so that your web site can be seen by your tutor

Don't even think of using the Theme command from the Format menu

Top 1.  Control your file structure

  • Open FrontPage
  • File
  • New
  • Web
  • Specify location of new web and write in name of the web (say TMA02)

... this will then bring you to a page like this:

New document in FrontPage

... ignoring the folders _private and images, start creating new image files and page files saving each with a lower case name (no spaces) until your web file structure starts to look like this. Notice that the image files are not placed in the image folder:

Image files not placed in image folder

By inserting Shared Borders from the Format menu, you can take now take advantage of the navigation tools of FrontPage.

Top 2.  To ensure browser compatibility

  • Open FrontPage
  • Tools
  • Page Options
  • Set browser compatibility and remove tick from 'Enabled with Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions'

Ensuring Browser compatibility with FrontPage

Top 3.  FrontPage themes and T171/TU170

Using the Theme command from the Format menu creates a series of embedded files that cannot be read by the ETMA system. Not only will the tutor not be able to see your theme, he will not be able to see your work at all!

DON'T USE THEMES!!!
