or... getting your hard work on display |

FTP, the
acronym for File Transfer Protocol... what does it do... or rather, why
do you need to know about it? Well... getting your web page online for
a start!! If you're using your OU webspace, then using the file upload
facility in FirstClass is pretty much as easy as it gets, if you're using
some other web space (how much do you need for goodness sake?!) then you'll
need an FTP package. Here are a few recommendations!

Pro |
The
version to the left is the pukka pro one supplied by Ipswitch
software, and is an evaluation version. If you love the the one provided
on the OU's software for T171 (WS_FTP32) which is, according to reliable
sources (i.e. not me), easy to set up and easy to use - you might want to
try this one! Why not! |

CuteFTP |
Another
that comes recommended by lots of different people. Reliable and user-friendly,
this might just be the right FTP program for you. Be warned - this is a
trial version only and it expires - you'll have to part with your hard earned
cash to keep it... or think of a way round it... ;o) |

Explorer |
I've
used FTP Explorer for ages, and it looks and feels like Windows Explorer
- in other words, it's easy. The link to the left'll get you a copy! It
is easy to use, particularly good if you're working behind a proxy server
or firewall - if you're not, don't worry about that last bit... if you are...
you'll know what I mean!! |
